“When employing drivers, they should be the lifeblood of your operation, dedicated to their work and proud to represent your company, I believe that, by providing a wide range of expert training leads to high-quality drivers”, says David Ward, Managing Director, Fenwick Haulage.

High Quality Training

Our drivers are visible representatives of our business, they should always demonstrate exemplary performance, behaviour and attitude; at Fenwicks we believe that the key to a successful driver is in the training that he or she receives. The provision of high quality training is the cornerstone of our business, and in today’s competitive marketplace we believe that there is no excuse for under trained or poorly trained drivers. Within the temperature-controlled marketplace, the importance of imparting a wide range of information and training to the drivers cannot be understated, as temperature-controlled distribution in itself requires a far greater level of driver knowledge, across a broad spectrum of subjects and procedures.

Our Training

Our training includes the detailed understanding of the load being carried, whether it is single temperature product or multi temperature using compartments with differing load criteria. This needs to be combined with the understanding of the controls of the relevant refrigeration system, including setting the required temperatures, completing the daily checks of the system, maintaining the temperature within the various compartments, as well as checking the need to ensure temperature compliance. Cross-referencing all paperwork that applies to the refrigeration system, as well as printing the data from the refrigeration unit is crucial.

Protecting the integrity of the load has to be one of the key elements of the driver’s overall responsibilities. The driver has to be clear as to the correct procedure that needs to be undertaken in the event of a failure of the refrigeration system, to minimise the impact on the particular load being carried. Your cargo within one of our refrigerated vehicles represents a significant financial investment to you and ultimately to your customer and at Fenwicks your business is our business.

Our office staff are also trained and kept up to date in all aspects of their work, holding NVQ qualifications in Business Management level 2 and 3, Customer Services level 2 & Apprenticeship in Traffic Office Management level 2. We also have a team of dedicated vehicle technicians who look after our fleet of over 30 vehicles in our on-site workshop, keeping the vehicles road worthy up to VOSA standards.

With our in-house training facilities Fenwicks are able to ensure that all our drivers are up to date with all current legislation including:

  • Driver CPC Training
  • Driver CPC NVQ's
  • Regular driver assessments
  • Tacho rule and regulation training
